Welcome to the Year 2 Class Page.

Here you will find everything you need to know about the exciting year ahead.

Children will continue to enjoy a rich and well-rounded curriculum designed to develop key skills, build confidence and encourage a love of learning. Our English curriculum follows a book-led approach, where children explore high-quality texts to inspire their reading and writing. Throughout the year, we will study books including Jim and the Beanstalk, Inside the Villains, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mr Bunny's Chocolate Factory, George's Marvellous Medicine, The Diary of a Killer Cat and Lizzie and the Birds. Phonics will continue to support reading development alongside fluency and comprehension.

In Mathematics, children will develop their understanding of place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, measurement, time, money and shape through our mastery approach. They will also continue to take part in the Mastering Number programme to strengthen their fluency, automaticity confidence with number.

This year, our History and Geography topics will help children explore the past and the wider world, while Science lessons will cover plants, animals including humans, living things and their habitats, everyday materials and seasonal changes. Alongside this, children will enjoy a broad curriculum including Computing, RE, PSHE, Music, Art, Design & Technology and PE.

Pupils should continue to read regularly at home (at least five times each week), and reading diaries should be signed by an adult. Homework will be set weekly and will focus on reading, spelling and maths.

Our PE days are Monday and Thursday. Children should come to school wearing their full PE kit on these days. During colder weather, plain black jogging bottoms may be worn over their PE kit. Please ensure all clothing is clearly named.
