Welcome to Year 6!

Welcome to the Year 6 class page, where you will find everything you need to know about the exciting year ahead.

Year 6 is a fantastic year, filled with new challenges, exciting opportunities and memorable experiences. Throughout the year, children will continue to enjoy a rich and engaging curriculum that develops their knowledge, confidence and independence, while preparing them for the transition to secondary school. Alongside their day-to-day learning, pupils will also prepare for their end of Key Stage 2 SATs, which take place in May.

In English, children will develop their reading, writing and spoken language through a range of high-quality texts and writing opportunities. Mathematics lessons will continue to build fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills across all areas of the curriculum, ensuring children become confident and resilient mathematicians.

Across the wider curriculum, children will study a range of exciting History, Geography and Science topics, alongside weekly lessons in Religious Education, Computing, Music, PSHE, Spanish and PE. Art and Design Technology will also be taught throughout the year, providing opportunities for children to be creative and develop practical skills.

Reading remains a key priority in Year 6. Children are encouraged to read at home at least five times each week, with reading diaries signed by an adult. Homework will be set weekly, alongside regular spelling practice and times table revision using TT Rock Stars. Spellings will also be tested each week.

Our PE days this year will be Tuesday and Thursday. Children should come to school wearing their full Willow Tree PE kit on these days. During colder weather, plain black jogging bottoms may be worn over PE kits. Please note that football or rugby kits are not permitted.

We are looking forward to a fantastic year of learning, achievement and celebration. If you have any questions or require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Albrecht.
