Welcome to the Year 3 class page! I am so excited to begin the new school year and can't wait to watch your child grow in confidence, develop new skills and flourish both academically and personally. This page contains all the information you will need for the exciting year ahead.

Children in Year 3 will continue to experience a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum that encourages curiosity, independence and a love of learning. In English, we follow a book-based approach, using high-quality texts to inspire imaginative writing and develop reading skills. Throughout the year, we will enjoy wonderful books including Leon and the Place Between, Stuart Little, The Iron Man and Greta and the Giants.  In Mathematics, children will build their understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, while also developing their knowledge of fractions, measurement, angles and shape through practical and engaging lessons.

Our wider curriculum offers many exciting opportunities. In Geography, we will investigate What Makes the UK a Great Place to Live? and learn about the importance of rivers. In History, we will explore the fascinating story of Britain's monarchs and discover how they have shaped our country. During Science lessons, children will investigate topics including Plants, Animals and Forces through hands-on enquiries and practical investigations.
Alongside these subjects, children will continue to enjoy a rich curriculum with weekly lessons in Religious Education, Computing, Music, PSHE, Spanish and PE, as well as alternating units of Art and Design Technology each half term.

One of our first events together will be our Harvest Assembly, where the children will have the opportunity to celebrate the season and reflect on the importance of kindness, gratitude and helping others. We look forward to sharing this special occasion with you.

Reading at home remains one of the most valuable ways you can support your child's learning. We ask that children read at least five times each week, with an adult signing their reading diary after each session.

Children will also receive weekly spellings to practise at home, with spelling tests taking place every Wednesday. In addition, regular practice on TT Rock Stars will help children build confidence and fluency with their times tables.

Our PE lessons will take place on Mondays and Fridays. Children should come to school wearing their Willow Tree green and purple PE kit along with suitable trainers. During the colder months, plain black jogging bottoms may be worn over their PE kit to keep warm. Please note that football and rugby kits are not permitted.

If you have any questions or require any further information throughout the year, please do not hesitate to get in touch. I am looking forward to working in partnership with you to ensure your child has a happy, successful and memorable Year 3.
